There have been a tonne of new games for 2023 and beyond announced during Summer Game Fest and the accompanying showcases from the likes of Xbox and Ubisoft. We're tracking the major upcoming Xbox Series X games and upcoming PS5 games, as well as all the upcoming PC games and upcoming Switch games on the horizon. Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals

The 2016 breakout hit Oxenfree is getting a sequel in the form of Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals. Developer Night School Studio is delivering us another supernatural mystery to unravel as heroine Riley returns to her hometown of Camena, but discovers a little more than she expected. Along with Riley, expect a whole new cast of characters, as the developer says it's a new story that also offers an entry point into the games without having played the first entry. Although, you totally should play it!
The Expanse: A Telltale Series

In The Expanse: A Telltale Series - in joint development at Telltale and Deck Nine - you'll play as Camina Drummer, who's well-known from the TV series of the same name as a prominent Belter (aka someone born in space). Cara Gee from the TV series is also reprising her role for the game. As you try to live your life on the outskirts of the asteroid belt, a mutiny breaks loose on your ship - The Artemis. Your choices will determine the fate of the ship and potentially those on board too.
Path of Exile 2

Free-to-play online RPG Path of Exile 2 has been beset by numerous delays, but a cinematic trailer confirmed its release date at Summer Game Fest 2023. A decade after the first installment, Path of Exile 2 will be launching this summer from developer Grinding Gear Games, and the top-down camera angles and complex fantasy world we've seen in the trailer already look promising. If you're looking for a free alternative to Diablo 4, you might have found it.
Atlas Fallen

Deck13 and Focus Entertainment are bringing us Atlas Fallen, another fantasy action RPG but set in a stunning sandy world. Even the weapons are sand-infused and the mysterious fighters are set to take down the legendary creatures that roam this place. Your task is to free mankind from the oppression of the gods. It's all a bit elusive right now, so let's see what else we learn about the game in the coming months.
Immortals of Aveum

Former Activision and EA developers have come together to create Immortals of Aveum. It's an intriguing first-person magic shooter, set in an original world. While the pre-rendered reveal trailer reveals little about the game, we do know that Immortals of Aveum is being developed under the EA Originals banner, so expect the quality to be high. If the stunning aesthetic can carry across into the final experience, Immortals of Aveum will certainly be one to watch.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

While developer FromSoftware has spent much of the last decade creating punishing action-RPGs, the studio is setting its sights on something different after Elden Ring. A decade on from the release of Armored Core 5, FromSoftware will unleash Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon across all platforms sometime in 2023. There's little detail just yet, but it's good to know that this legendary mech-assisted action game is making its long-awaited return this year.
Under the Waves

Under the Waves is a new narrative-driven game from Parallel Studios and publisher Quantic Dream that's set to take us down into the depths of the sea as professional driver Stan. With plenty of mysteries down in the depths, we're set to follow Stan as he struggles with a life-changing loss in isolation, with events said to get surreal and strange. It's certainly has an intriguing concept in an alternate techno-futuristic 1970s that will also allow us to explore the North Sea.
Baldur's Gate 3

Release date: August 31, 2023
Baldur's Gate 3 has been moving through Steam Early Access since October 2020, and now developer Larian Studios is finally ready to unleash its new RPG on the world. Baldur's Gate 3 is set to land in August 2023, with the Mind Flayers doing all they can to rip and shred their way through your party. Larian has been doing great work on the legendary series through two years of Early Access, and we can't wait to see how the final game shapes up.
Starfield

Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years, Starfield, is an open-world RPG set in space, and Bethesda has been working on it for years. And from the first gameplay shown off at the E3 2022 Bethesda and Xbox Games Showcase, it's been worth the wait. With 1,000 planets to explore, however and whenever you want, Starfield is giving you the control to explore space as part of Constellation - a group figuring out what's going on in space. With the deepest customisation options for a Bethesda game ever, you'll be able to make your own character, base, and ship too.
Fae Farm

Fae Farm is a new farming sim where you're cultivating your own cozy corner of enchanted world. Playable solo or with up to three friends, you'll raise magical creatures, explore the magical realms, and make friends (or more) with the locals. Plus, the cozier your home is the better your experience will be.
The Crew Motorfest

The Crew Motorfest is Ubisoft's take on Forza Horizon, with the open-world racing experience taking us down to Hawaii. It's essentially a playable car festival, with an ever-changing activity program offering things like campaign mission, races, live events, and more through playlists. It'll feature over 600 cars too.
Mortal Kombat 1

Release date: September 19, 2023
While many had anticipated the launch of Mortal Kombat 12 in 2023, NetherRealm has decided to go in a different direction. The studio is instead launching Mortal Kombat 1, which is set to draw the series into an alternate timeline with all new rivalries and twists on iconic characters. With a new fighting system, more brutal fatalities, and a revised suite of offline and online game modes, MK1 looks set to be one of the biggest fighting games of the year.
Lies of P

Lies of P is offering up a very dark, twisted version of the classic Pinocchio story (although I'd argue it's already pretty dark). With Soulslike combat, Lies of P will see you walking the line between truth and lie by asking you to make decisions that'll directly impact the game's narrative. Of course, like too much and you won't be a real boy for much longer.
Party Animals

Party Animals has been at the top of the Steam most wishlisted chart for quite some time, but now it's finally coming out. This physics-based party game has a variety of modes for you and your friends to enjoy from Last Stand to Arcade, which offers different rules per match. It's beautiful, fuzzy chaos.
Payday 3

It's been a long time coming, but Payday 3 is finally happening. This long-awaited sequel sees the Payday crew making a return from criminal retirement to deal with a brand new threat. This time we're relocating to New York for some heist action, with the usual emphasis on planning continuing alongside the explosive chaos.
Detective Pikachu Returns

Detective Pikachu Returns! The long-awaited sequel is finally en route and it's bringing with it a talking 'Chu. The coffee-loving Pikachu is tougher talking than ever, and will be teaming up with Tim Goodman once again to solve mysteries in Ryme City. The duo will need to enlist the help of other Pokemon to tackle these chin scratchers.
Forza Motorsport

Forza Motorsport is set to take the realistic racer into the next-generation. Built to make the most of the power of the Xbox Series X/S, Forza Motorsport features advanced car damage to add to its sense of immersion and simulation along with overhauled physics, ray tracing, and a time of day system. Turn 10 studio looks like it's setting out to create the most technically advanced racing game in the Motorsport series, with some throwbacks long-time fans will appreciate such as the return of the Maple Valley track.
Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin's Creed Mirage will take us to Baghdad as Bassim from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Smaller in scale than the open-world RPG that came before, Mirage will be a narrative-driven action-adventure that looks set to pay homage to the original experience of the original Assassin's Creed that started the series, only with modern features and mechanics.
Lords of the Fallen

Lords of the Fallen is essentially a series reboot for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, and this dark fantasy action game is positioning itself as a Dark Souls alternative with the same style of punishing combat set across a more expansive world. We'll know for certain whether this reboot can do what its predecessor couldn't when it launches later this year.
Alan Wake 2

During The Game Awards 2021, Remedy officially revealed our very first glimpse of the much-hoped-for sequel, Alan Wake 2. While it's been relatively quiet from the developer since then, a new trailer at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023 revealed that Remedy's first-ever survival horror game will launch on October 17.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Insomniac is cooking up more Spider-Man goodness, and this time Peter Parker and Mile Morales will join forces to fight someone that sounds suspiciously like Kraven the Hunter in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. We also got a glimpse of Venom - teased in the last game - in the trailer, but it remains to be seen whether he'll be more of a friend or a foe. The trailer gave us everything you want from a new Spider-Man game, acrobatic combat, webslinging and spandex suits, but now it's double the fun.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a brand new 2D side-scrolling Mario game that's giving everything a very cute arts style that's making everyone into dinky little things. However, more importantly the titular mention of wonder is a reference to the new Wonder Flowers debuting with the game. Whenever you touch one it'll change gameplay elements so it'll be always unpredictable. Mario's getting a new power-up too, transforming him into Elephant Mario.
Cities: Skylines 2

As the sequel to one of the best city building games around, Cities: Skylines 2 looks set to offer us a deeper simulation and greater levels of customization to build up any city our imaginations can cook up. Decisions will once again shape how the city grows and evolves, and affect its citizens as it develops. It certainly sounds like it will be a big step up from the game that came before it. After all, it's striving to deliver the "most realistic city builder" where we'll be able to shape a metropolis of our own "without restrictions".
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

Officially announced alongside Metal Gear Sold Delta: Snake Eater, the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The latter two are the versions that previously appeared as part of the HD Collection.
Alone in the Dark

Jodie Comer and David Harbour star as Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby, respectively, in the new Alone in the Dark from THQ Nordic. Described as a love letter to the '90s cult classic horror game, it's set in the 1920s American South with a noir setting and Lovecraftian horror.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased his Name

Release date: November 8, 2023
Kazuma Kiryu faked his own death, but now in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased his Name he's being forced out of hiding by a mysterious figure. Now operating under the codename of Joryu, Kiryu is fighting back. He's specifically doing so with two distinct fighting style too, with Yakuza style being his usual one, and then Agent Style being more about gadgets and speed.
Persona 5 Tactica

Persona 5 Tactica is a spin-off title that's a tactical game a bit more like Fire Emblem or XCOM than your traditional Persona experience. It still features many of the Persona 5 characters but rendered in a new chibi artstyle as they battle it out with a new strategy focus.
Super Mario RPG

Release date: November 17, 2023
Super Mario RPG is a complete remake of the original SNES title, which was then only released in Japan and North America. You'll join Bowser, Mario, and Princess Peach, along with two unique heroes called Mallow and Geno, as they attempt to tke down The Smithy Gang. The Star Road needs repairing and playing through this turn-based RPG is the only way to do it.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

The long-awaited Avatar game - now officially called Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - finally got revealed at E3 2021, and it's in development at Massive Entertainment (in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney). The game will be a new standalone story where you plas as a Na'vi and journey across the Western Frontier, which is a brand new part of Pandora not seen in any media before. This is a first-person, action-adventure title, with a living and reactive world that's fighting against the formidable RDA forces.
Disney Dreamlight Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley is a magical new life simulation adventure where you get to live alongside and help a host of beloved Pixar and Disney characters. Set in a once idyllic land, the residents have been affected by a force known as the Forgetting which has severed their memories tied to the land. You'll be able to befriend the familiar faces, explore, complete quests, and unlock new areas as you try live your best Disney life. Counter-Strike 2

Value officially announced that a follow-up to its hit FPS is on the way, and that it will be available as a free upgrade to CS:GO. Set to introduce a variety of new and improve features, Counter-Strike 2 will include smoke grenades that interact with the environment and react to elements such as lighting, explosions, and gunfire. Maps will also be fully overhauled in the next installment, with improved visuals and UI enhancements.
Sonic Superstars

Remixing the classic 2D Sonic experience with a fresh 3D look, Sonic Superstars debuted during the Summer Game Fest 2023. Featuring new zones and environments, Sonic teams up with signature pals including Knuckles, Tails, and Amy to take on Dr Eggman once again. Complete with new powers to master from Chaos Emeralds, the return of the speedy hedgehog looks set to bring back the original experience in delightful modern style.
Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a survival crafting game where you help the Dwarves reclaim their home of Moria under the Misty Mountains. You'll have to craft and build as well as figuring out how to survive. The iconic mines will be yours to explore as you build your base too, but just watch out for Orcs.
Jusant

Jusant, a new game from Don't Nod, is all about climbing with the ultimate goal of reaching the top of a huge, huge tower. You'll need to master your tools, manage your stamina, and solve puzzles along the way though. Handily, you're not allow, as you're accompanied by The Ballast, a strange creature made entirely of water. Plus, you'll be discovering all the secrets that this place has to offer as you climb.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink

Developer Cygames has been working on Granblue Fantasy: Relink for a bit now. The game is an action-RPG with co-op for up to four players that's based on the popular Granblue Fantasy IP. That means magic, striking character designs, and plenty of combat to go around.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Life is Strange and Vampyr developer Dontnod is preparing a new action-RPG, with this one set in the frozen wilderness of North America in 1695. We'll be following two ghost hunters, Antea Duarte and Red mac Rait, who are trying to protect the living from spectral entities. The studio says we should expect a rich world and plenty of spooky cases to solve, with challenging decisions impacting the way you push through Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden.
Ghostrunner 2

Ghostrunner 2 from developer One More Level looks like the original Ghostrunner... but more. The cyberpunk action sequel is set to expand the world of Ghostrunner as the power vacuum left in the wake of the Keymaster's death causes others to try and fill it. All that and a new dialog system!
Hollow Knight: Silksong

Team Cherry is bringing us another Hollow Knight adventure with Silksong. This time we follow the journey of Princess Hornet - protector of the Hollownest - who's been captured and taken to a strange and distant world. With over 150 new foes and new moves to master, you'll get to explore new towns, complete quests, and try out new tools in this unfamiliar kingdom in Hollow Knight: Silksong. The interconnected world Team Cherry has brought to life in its beautiful hand-crafted 2D style is filled with a variety of different vistas that all look absolutely gorgeous, and with so many new features and foes to encounter, Silksong is one jam-packed sequel to watch out for.
The Lamplighters League

The Lamplighters League is a new strategy RPG that's set to take us to a world set in an alternate 1930s. With a character-driven story that sees you recruit a team of "misfits" that all have their own distinct personalities and unique abilities, the adventure will see you set out to put a stop to a cult known as the Banished Court. With turn-based tactical combat and lots of different locales to explore, The Lamplighters League looks set to be one intriguing upcoming release.
Flintlock: Siege of Dawn

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is an open-world RPG adventure that will see you play as Nor, accompanied by her mysterious companion, Enki. You'll be trying to master an arsenal of weaponry, magical abilities, and more as you make humanity's last stand. The Door to the Afterlife has been opened by the gods, meaning the living will have to embrace violence if they're to stand any chance against the dead.
Hades 2

Hades is one of the best roguelikes of all-time, so it's no surprise that developer Supergiant is hard at work on its first ever sequel. Hades 2 will launch in Early Access in 2023, and it's going to let us battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery to take on the sinister Titan of Time. We won't be playing as Zagreus this time though, but rather his sibling – Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld. Hades 2 could be one of the biggest games of 2023, so stay tuned for more.
Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 is a third-person shooter and sequel to the original Helldivers, which was a twin-stick shooter from back in 2015. The game from developer Arrowhead sees players take on hostile bug-like alien creatures with advanced technology and looks honestly quite a bit like Starship Troopers.
Silent Hill: Ascension

Silent Hill: Ascension is set to deliver an all-new Silent Hill story "in a unique way." As an interactive series set to "go live on multiple platforms" sometime in 2023, the official press release states that Ascension will put the story and characters "into the hands of the audience as the narrative unfolds". We don't yet know much about the level of interactivity there will be, but the experience promises to "immerse participants" in the horror of Silent Hill. Silent Hill: Ascension is part of a collaboration between livestream platform Genvid Entertainment, production company dj2 Entertainment, and Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive.
Transformers: Reactivate

Brink developer Splash Damage is teaming up with Battalion 1944 developer Bulkhead to create an all-new Transformers game. It's being pitched as an online shooter, where you'll be able to join three other players and step into the robotic shoes of some of the franchise's most iconic characters. And yes, you will be able to transform from bot to vehicle at will in Transformers: Reactivate. It's entering closed beta in 2023, so stay tuned for more.
Ark 2

The dinosaur hunting PC hit is back with a bigger, ballsier sequel in Ark 2 that features none other than Vin Diesel both in front and behind of the digital camera. Yep, the Fast & Furious star is not only playing a key character in the next-gen survival game, but he's joined series developer Studio Wildcard as an executive producer, having long been a fan of the original game. Goodness knows what that means for the final product… perhaps the dinosaurs were part of our family all along?
Cocoon
Platform(s): Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch

Cocoon is the first game from Jeppe Carlsen, the lead gameplay designer from Limbo and Inside. You'll be exploring worlds within worlds that are small enough to carry in orbs on your back. Your aim is to figure out how to leap between worlds, and then combine and manipulate them to figure out complex puzzles. There's a cosmic mystery to be unravelled, and you're just the bug to do it.
Lysfanga: The Time-Shift Warrior

A new announcement from Spotlight by Quantic Dream, Lysfanga: The Time-Shift Warrior is an upcoming action game where you can literally be in two places at once. We got our first taste of it in the accompanying trailer at Summer Game Fest 2023, showcasing frenetic melee combat as well as the unique, astral projection-esque doubling of heroine Lysfanga in action. The gameplay looks similar to that of Hades in all its hack n'slash roguelike glory, and we can't wait to learn more as we await a more solid release date.
Nightingale

Nightingale comes from former BioWare boss Aaryn Flynn. First revealed during the Game Awards 2021, Nightingale is described as a "shared-world survival game" that takes place in a Victorian fantasy setting. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? You'll be able to play the survival adventure solo or with friends and other players you meet in the world. According to the official site, testing is set to go live sometime next year, so it looks like we can expect to see a Beta at some stage.
Open Roads

Get ready for a road trip with Tess Devine and her mother Opal as they set out to uncover their family secrets. After discovering notes and letters tucked away in the attic of their home, the mother-daughter duo journeys to visit old abandoned family properties to learn more about their family history. Revisiting memories that each property holds, Open Roads explores the relationship between Tess and Opal and takes them on "a journey into the past they'll never forget". From Gone Home and Tacoma developer Fullbright, this notable upcoming adventure features the voice acting talents of Keri Russel and Kaitlyn Dever.
STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl

In this one, you'll be exploring the vast Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the highly anticipated sequel to the original title. The Zone is a much tougher place to survive than before, especially after the second explosion hit the nuclear reactor. There are violent mutants, deadly anomalies, and warring factions all to contend with in Stalker 2 – and an incredible power at the center of the Zone that may provide an even more serious threat.
Skull and Bones

Sea of Thieves isn't the only open-world pirate game out there - Ubisoft's Skull and Bones is also setting sail, with a much more realistic take on pirate battles on the high seas. Skull and Bones is basically Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag without the Assassins, as it's being developed by much of the same team behind Black Flag, and promises a sweeping solo campaign as you vie for control over the 18th-century waters in the Indian Ocean. But the real focus looks to be player-versus-player ship skirmishes online, where each player controls their very own warship in team-based fleet battles. There will also be supernatural elements amidst all the cannon-fire, like the colossal tentacles of a terrifying kraken lurking in the deep.
The Talos Principle 2

A sequel to the 2014 puzzler, The Talos Principle 2 looks like it will expand the basic premise of the original to include yet more puzzles and mechanics and secrets. The game, much like the original, is set far into the future with robots digging into big questions.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a new platformer, side-scrolling take for the series, brought to us by the Rayman Legends team so you know it's going to be good. You'll be exploring Mount Qaf, a Persian-inspired world with plenty of secrets to discover as you try to rescue the Prince himself. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League sees you playing as our squad of chaotic semi-heroes. Squad up as Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, or Captain Boomerang, with bots or other players taking the role of the other four as you play. Set in the Batman: Arkham universe, Rocksteady has already said this is a continuation of the previous games, so prepare to see some existing threads and storylines come to fruition. While the original Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date was set for May 26, it has since been delayed to February 2024.

It's a 33-player co-op game where as you play as a damned soul rebelling against God's final judgment. You must work together to survive hordes of monsters, defeat bosses, and then take on God themselves.
Avowed

Avowed is a brand new RPG from OBsidian Entertaiment, and although it has connects to the Pillars of Eternity games is also able to exist as a standalone entity. You'll be exploring the Living Lands as an envoy of Aedyr, where a plague is spreading to beast and foe alike.
Concord

Technically announced during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, relatively little of what Concord actually is has been seen as of yet. It is known that the title from Firewalk Studios is a PvP multiplayer FPS, and it looks like there's some kind of sci-fi, space-based bent to it. Beyond that is anyone's guess at this point.
Dungeons of Hinterberg

Dungeons of Hinterberg is basically a skateboarding, swordfighting action RPG with a really awesome, colorful art style. Set in the Alpine village of Hinterberg, you are Luisa, a burnt-out law trainee taking a break to conquer the titular dungeons. You'll have to explore the Alps in order to find the dungeons, which are very much looking like Zelda / Monument Valley inspired puzzles with combat thrown in for good measure.
Earthblade

The developer behind the legendary Celeste is working on a brand new 2D platformer, titled Earthblade. While it isn't set to launch until 2024, what we have seen of it so far promises lush pixel art, countless mysteries to explore, and a more focused blend of exploration and challenging combat. We'll be traveling the remnants of a ruined world as Névoa, an enigmatic child of Fate returning at long last to Earth, and we couldn't be more excited to see what Extremely OK Games is able to deliver this time.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is officially titled Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Cloud is set to make his long-awaited return in 2023, with Square Enix teasing quite the shift from the original FF7 plot. Given that Crisis Core's Zack featured so prominently in the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reveal trailer, you might want to check out the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion remaster that's set to later this year to get all caught up on the story. Otherwise, we'll be waiting until 2024 before we can get our hands on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, as we found out during this year's Summer Game Fest.
Flight Sim 2024

The next iteration of Flight Sim has been announced and Flight Simulator 2024 is letting you do much, much more than just enjoy the realism of flying various aircrafts and navigating from point A to point B. In 2024, the game is not just taking advantage of the latest sim, machine learning, and graphics tech to be prettier and more realistic than ever, it's also going to let you pursue aviation careers. We're talking the like of aerial firefighting, search and rescue, cargo transport, air ambulance, agricultural aviation, skydive aviation, aerial construction, and more.
John Carpenter's Toxic Commando

The creator of legendary slasher franchise Halloween is teaming up with Saber Interactive in John Carpenter's Toxic Commando. The trailer dropped during Summer Game Fest 2023, and the black comedy elements are already palpable. Underscored by its characters singing an out-of-tune rendition of You Give Love a Bad Name, Toxic Commando looks like a bloody fun FPS with hordes of shambling zombies to lay to waste. It's been given a ballpark release sometime in 2024, so we'll have to wait for more information on this truly chaotic gore-fest.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

A new tale of the Kami awaits in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, a new game from Capcom. A sacred mountain has been defiled by its residents and has become a physical blight that's summoned horrific (but colorful) creatures called the Seethe. You will be clearing a path for the Spirit Stone Maiden so she can perform the rite of cleansing, but there's a lot of combat to be done before that can happen.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is taking the series to the US for the first time, with Kasuga Ichiban and Kazuma Kiryu set to embark on what Sega is calling "a larger-than-life RPG" thanks to an "unexpected chain of events". With Ichiban waking up naked on an American beach in the reveal trailer, we can certainly expect more of the unexpected.

Persona 3 Reload

Persona 3 Reload is bringing back the RPG for the modern age, with a revamped battle system, all-new English voice over, and more. However, Atlus has confirmed that Persona 3 Reload won't include content from FES or Portable, including the female hero, much to the sadness of fans.
Rise of the Ronin

Team Ninja is developing a new PS5 exclusive called Rise of the Ronin. The game is set to take place in late 19th century Japan, and will reportedly be a combat focused open-world action-RPG. The reveal looked fantastic, although with that 2024 release year ages away, there's a good chance we won't see any more of Rise of the Ronin for a little while. Still, given that Team Ninja is one of the masters of samurai action games, this will likely be worth the wait.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

The surprise reveal of the Xbox Series X at The Game Awards also came with the first look at a sequel to the affecting Hellblade - Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 - and quite honestly we've not seen that much of it since. Don't expect Senua's story to have got any lighter since we last saw her. The disconcerting chanting, flashes of foreboding bonfires, and a man seemingly buried in a rock hint at another harrowing journey that will hopefully make as much of an impact as the original.
Star Wars Outlaws

Still Wakes the Deep

At long last, Michel Ancel and his team at Ubisoft have confirmed one of the most asked-for, anticipated sequels of our time. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is actually a prequel to Jade and Pey'j's journalistic escapades in the original game, taking on a much grander scale in a cyberpunk, Luc Besson-looking future full of high-tech ships and anthropomorphic animals. The lively crew of space pirates in BG&E2's cinematic reveal trailer are just some of many - you'll be starting from scratch with the hopes of one day reaching their level of professional thievery, visiting (and stealing from) the residents of multiple cities on myriad planets.
Clockwork Revolution

Contraband

Contraband is a brand new co-op game coming from Avalanche Studios - the team behind Just Cause. It's set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan, and will be quite the smuggler's paradise. Not much is known about the game yet, but the studio says it is "pushing the boundaries with the next generation of [its] Apex Engine" for the title.
Cyberpunk 2077 Orion

CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting a sequel. Codenamed Orion, the studio stated that the next Cyberpunk game will be taking the series further and "continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe". Developed by the core CD Projekt Red team, not much else was revealed about project Orion beyond the fact that it aims to "prove the full power and potential of the Cyberpunk universe."
Death Stranding 2

Kojima Productions is diving back into its apocalyptic vision of the United States of America with Death Stranding 2. Details are light, but we know that the sequel is in production for PS5, will once again use the Decima engine (which most recently produced stunning results in Horizon Forbidden West), and will feature a cast that includes Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Troy Baker, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna. Expect this to be a little while off though.
Dragon's Dogma 2

After a decade of anticipation, Capcom has finally confirmed that Dragon's Dogma 2 is in-development. This long-awaited sequel will be directed once again by Hideaki Itsuno, and the game is being built in the RE Engine – which powered everything from Devil May Cry 5 to Resident Evil Village. Capcom is yet to confirm a release window or platforms, but it's just good to know that an iconic RPG is finally getting a sequel after so much time.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

The next major project from BioWare, Dragon Age 4 will continue the story left off by 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition. Now the official title of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, our return to Thedas will see the return of former companion Solas, only this time Fen' Heral or The Dread Wolf will feature as the upcoming RPG's central antagonist. While we've had some concept art teases and a behind-the-scenes look, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding the direction of the story and what role we'll have to play.
Dune Awakening

Dune Awakening is a new open-world survival MMO from developer and publisher Funcom that will take us to the sci-fi desert world of Arrakis. Set to marry the features of a survival game with a multiplayer experience, you'll have to build up your own shelters to take refuge from sandstorms, avoid any sandworms that lurk beneath the surface, and hunt down spice as you try to make it in the harsh world.
Everwild

Everwild is a new IP from Rare exclusively for Xbox One that has already caught our attention thanks to its wonderful art style and enchanting world. We really don't know much about this new adventure yet, but the mystery surrounding it just makes it all the more tantalising. Set in a "natural and magical world," Everwild promises to take us on an unforgettable experience. From the trailer that debuted at X019, it's certainly shaping up to be one to keep an eye on. We can hardly wait to find out more about Everwild's world and the many creatures that appear to inhabit it.
Fable 4

Forza developer Playground Games is making a hard pivot into RPG territory with the next iteration of Xbox's Fable series, which hasn't seen a mainline entry since 2010's Fable 3. Developed exclusively for Xbox Series X and S, Fable 4 will utilise the enhanced power of the next-generation hardware for a more magical escape into the fantasy of Albion. Just… don't expect to be speeding around its medieval towns in a Bugatti 64.

The initial announcement trailer gives some serious Splatoon vibes mixed with a bit of Fortnite as players can actually build up layers of foam to then zoom over it or create defensive structures and more.
Fort Solis

With an announcement during the Summer Game Fest, Fort Solis is an upcoming third-person thriller from developer Fallen Leaf. Featuring the acting talents of Troy Baker (The Last of Us) and Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2), Fort Solis takes place on far side of Mars where engineer Jack Leary arrives at a base of the same name, which is said to lie dormant with no sign of the staff in sight. Events are said to "spiral out of control"; the mystery surrounding the base and its crew begins to unravel. It all sounds very intriguing.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd

West of Dead developer Upstream Arcade is delivering an original storyline set in the Hellboy universe, and it looks utterly sublime. The studio has absolutely nailed the look and vibe of Mike Mignola's style, funneling it into a challenging roguelite. You'll explore the Butterfly House as Hellboy (voiced by Lance Reddick), a twisting supernatural space, as you head off in search of a missing B.P.R.D. agent. No release date has been set just yet.
Indiana Jones

Announced with a teenie teaser trailer, there's a new Indiana Jones game inbound from MachineGames, Bethesda, and Lucasfilm Games. From the clues hidden in the trailer, it looks like we're looking at an Indy story set in 1937, with our whip-touting hero exploring the standing stones and stone circles of Italy. That date puts it after Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Temple of Doom, and yet before The Last Crusade, which is interesting too. From the hints, it may even be that we're looking at the story involving a lost race of giant cyclops too.
Judas

When Ken Levine dissolved Irrational Games, he did so out of a desire to create smaller narrative-driven experiences where your choices have true consequences. Judas is Ghost Story Games' first attempt at exactly that, with this upcoming FPS equipped with Big BioShock Vibes and a pretty stunning visual style. It's likely that Judas is still a little ways away, but what we've seen of it so far is certainly impressive. This is one to watch for sure.
Little Devil Inside

After starting life as a Kickstarter project, Little Devil Inside actually appeared in the big PS5 showcase in 2020. This is an RPG with survival elements involved, and quite the little sense of humour. It's set in a Victorian-esque era, where you're tasked with discovering - and fighting - a range of bizarre monsters. It looks like quite the romp.
Marathon

Marathon is a sci-fi extraction shooter and the first totally new project from developer Bungie in over a decade. The first CGI trailer for the game showcases some of the "Runners" -- players -- and the striking visual style of the game. The PvP title will see players look for mysterious artifacts while taking on others solo or in teams of three.
Marvel's Wolverine

Ok, so we don't know much about the new Marvel's Wolverine game right now, only that it's being made by Spider-Man studio Insomniac and is a PS5 exclusive. We do know that it served up an absolutely kick-ass teaser trailer for its reveal, featuring our favorite clawed grump sat at a bar in the aftermath of a brawl, trying to enjoy a whisky. He's rudely interrupted, and that's when those famous talons make their appearance. We don't even get to see his face in the short snippet, but we're excited anyway.
Mass Effect

In addition to Dragon Age 4, BioWare has also confirmed its returning to the final frontier with a new entry in its long-running Mass Effect series. A brief teaser trailer released at the end of 2020 was all that was needed to get us excited, showing the return of a fan favourite character in Liara, who appears older and wiser than the last time we saw her, and is seemingly on the hunt for Commander Shephard's ship, the Normandy. What could it all mean? BioWare's staying quiet for now, but we're already preparing for launch.
Metroid Prime 4

You know a series is popular when a teaser showing literally nothing besides a numbered logo can garner 2 million views on YouTube. At E3 2017, Nintendo dropped a bombshell by confirming the existence of Metroid Prime 4 - only to later announce that Metroid Prime 4 has been delayed and rebooted as Nintendo passes it to original trilogy dev Retro Studios. It could be a while before we see this one, but it'll hopefully be worth the extra wait.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

After many, many rumors and reports, Konami officially revealed Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater -- or Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater -- during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase. The remake will feature the original game's "voice characters" in addition to its story and combat with updated graphics and sound. When, exactly, it might release is currently unclear.
Sand Land

Sandland is a new adventure based on the classic manga from Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama - who's artistic talents also brought to life the Dragon Quest series. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, the game takes place in a desert where both demons and humans live together and both struggle due to water shortage. You'll follow the story of Beezlebub, the prince of demons, and a small sheriff by the name of Roa in search of the Phantom Lake.
Silent Hill 2 remake

After much rumor and speculation, Silent Hill 2 is officially getting a remake from Layers of Fear and Blair Witch developer Bloober Team. The remake will be bringing the classic psychological survival horror game first released back in 2001 to the modern era, with enhanced visuals, audio, and updated gameplay using Unreal Engine 5. Original Silent Hill 2 composer Akira Yamaoka is back on board along with artist Mashiro Ito who also previously worked on the Silent Hill series. Silent Hill 2 follows the story of protagonist James who finds himself in the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife. Konami announced that Silent Hill 2 is set to come to PC and PS5 as a timed console exclusive.
Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f is a surprise new game that will tell an original story written by Ryūkishi07, who is most known for Japanese visual novels Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko When They Cry. While not too much is known about the game at this stage, the initial announcement trailer revealed it's coming to us from Neobards Entertainment, a studio that has ported games such as Resident Evil Re: Verse and Resident Evil Resistance among many others. Interestingly, we also know that the setting will be completely different, with the story set in 1960's Japan in a "beautiful, yet horrifying world".
Silent Hill: Townfall

Announced among a suite of exciting new Silent Hill shaped projects, Silent Hill: Townfall is a mysterious new project from Stories Untold developer No Code and publisher Annapurna Interactive. We don't yet know too much about the game, but many were quick to closely study the announcement trailer, which showed a transmission on a small television set. In the transmission, fans picked apart the audio to find a secret message hidden within it. While no release date or platforms have been announced just yet, more information on Silent Hill: Townfall is expected to come sometime in 2023.
Sword of the Sea

Sword of the Sea from developer Giant Squid sees the protagonist, the Wraith, ride a Hoversword over shifting sea of sand. Players will surf along the vast Necropolis of the Gods in order to bring back a lost ocean. With a score from Austin Wintory and art from "the visionary artist behind ABZÛ, The Pathless, and Journey," Sword of the Sea is one to watch.
Throne and Liberty

Throne and Liberty is a new Korean MMORPG from Amazon Games and developer NCSoft, which will be free-to-play. Said to feature cross-platform PvP and PvE, you'll have to adapt to the battlefield as it's impacted by changes in weather and other players' actions. It already looks set to put Dragonlands to shame when it launches, hopefully in the not-too distant future.
The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4 is officially set to kick start what will be a new AAA RPG trilogy for the Witcher series. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding where The Witcher 4 - codenamed The Witcher Polaris - will take us. All we have to go for the time being is a teaser image which intriguingly shows a medallain belonging to the school of the Lynx; which has already led to theories among fans about Ciri's involvement. We also know that The Witcher 4 is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, instead of CD Projekt Red's proprietary REDengine and it won't likely arrive before 2025.
The Witcher Sirius

The Witcher Sirius is a new game coming from The Flame and The Flood developer The Molasses Flood with support from CD Projekt Red. Revealed alongside a host of other Witcher-shaped announcements, Sirius is the codename for the as yet untitled project that is said to have a multiplayer offering along with a single-player experience with a campaign that features a story with quests. Since the initial announcement of The Witcher Sirius, job listed have surfaced that suggest it may feature procedural landscapes and it will differ from past projects, with the experience aimed at a broader demographic of players.
The Witcher Canis Majoris

The Witcher Canis Majoris is described as a "full-fledged Witcher" game that will be separate from the upcoming AAA trilogy. Not too much was revealed in the way of details about the project code-named Canis Majoris, but we do know that it will be a "story-driven RPG" that is set to be developed by an external studio made up of veteran developers who have been involved in previous Witcher games.
Phantom Blade Zero

This new action RPG from developer S-Game features a mix of Chinese martial arts and steampunk. Impressively, this title can trace its roots back to an RPG Maker title from 2010 called Rainblood: Town of Death. Phantom Blade Zero is being described as a "spiritual rebirth" of that game -- with all the improvements of Unreal Engine 5.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake

Ubisoft is bringing back one of the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era's most memorable titles with a fresh remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It might sound surprising for a studio that's been around so long, but this marks Ubisoft's first full-fledged remake, distinct from other titles they've simply remastered for newer hardware. That said, The Sands of Time remake is pretty darn faithful to the original, just with modern graphics and gameplay.
Perfect Dark

We've long wondered what Microsoft's newly established first-party The Initiative has been up to for the last few years - turns out the answer was more exciting than any of us could have expected. Resurrecting Rare's cult classic franchise for the next-generation, Perfect Dark could be the next killer exclusive for Microsoft's Xbox family, though we're yet to see anything beyond the intriguing cinematic which debuted in 2020. Here's hoping the studio doesn't remain in the dark for much longer.

The game will feature an entirely original James Bond story, but not much is known about exactly what that will be yet. According to MGM's Robert Marick, IO was chosen because of their position as "masters of crafting living, breathing worlds of immersive storytelling".

Developer Luna Software is back to bring us a new sci-fi horror that was first revealed almost a decade ago. Being built from the ground up, the re-reveal during Summer Game Fest 2022 gave us a look at its 80's style futuristic setting in an abandoned lunar base. From the sounds of it, it will center around exploration as you navigate through the base in search of answers. Of course, there will be some kind of threat within the base, but what it is remains to be seen.

During the Game Awards 2021, we got to see the very first look at Slitterhead from the director behind Silent Hill, Keiichiro Toyama. Developed by Bokeh Game Studio, trailer opens by saying that Toyama has returned for a "new challenge in horror", From what we've seen, with insect-like creatures and swords made of blood, it certainly looks like we're certainly in for a creepy experience.

South of Midnight is a new third-person action game from Compulsion games, where we'll follow the story of Hazel. It's set in a magical version of the American South, where Hazel is trying to repair the world by defeating supernatural creatures that are all base on real-life folklore from the region.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

The classic RPG is getting a full remake thanks to Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr. If you missed it the first time around, the game is set over 4,000 years before the Skywalker saga. It's a time when the Jedi and the Sith are at war. Your job is to help stop Darth Malak as he and his Sith armada threaten the Galactic Republic, finding companions and exploring planets like Dantooine, Tatooine, and Kashyyyk along the way.
The Outer Worlds 2

Revealed with a cheeky piss-take out of most game trailers, The Outer Worlds 2 is coming. While info on the game is scarce for now, developer Obsidian says the title will deliver a "new solar system, new crew, same outer worlds".
The Elder Scrolls 6

After years of prevaricating, party pooping, and a preposterous number of Skyrim re-releases, Bethesda came out at E3 2018 to finally confirm that The Elder Scrolls 6 is officially on the way, even releasing a short but exciting teaser trailer to prove it. That trailer in question doesn't reveal a whole lot, but suggests a number of potential settings for the long awaited sequel, from the long forgotten High Rock to the lost island of Yokuda. Sadly, this RPG is likely to stay in production for quite some time, but the more hopeful adventurers wouldn't be completely mad for expecting The Elder Scrolls 6 to release before the end of the decade. Fingers crossed.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

After the release of the first Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines in 2004, nothing came as close to a great vampire RPG since. Thankfully, Hardsuit Labs and Paradox Interactive are bringing bloodlines back with a sequel that promises to take us on an immersive role-playing experience as a vampire thrown into the world of bloodsuckers in Seattle. As a newly sired vampire, you'll find yourself caught up in Blood trade war between competing vampire factions. With dialogue options, alliances to be made, and choices to make, Bloodlines 2 looks like it's shaping up to fill the void the first game left behind it.
Wonder Woman

A Wonder Woman game is officially on the way from Monolith, the developer behind Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, and Gotham City Imposters. So far, we've only seen a very brief teaser trailer during The Game Awards 2021, which shows off brief glimpses of the hero's iconic armor before we first see Wonder Woman appear on screen, it is said that "she will fight to unite the warriors of two worlds."
Wyrdsong

Wyrdsong is a brand new game from equally brand new studio Something Wicked Games. Made up of former Bethesda Game Studios and Obsidian Entertainment, the studio's game is a fantasy RPG set in a fictional Portugal during the Middle Ages. It will apparently ask players to question "both their reality and the choices they make" in what Something Wicked hopes to be a challenge to current RPG titles.
